Accessibility statement
I want everyone to be able to read this site and use it comfortably, on any device and with any assistive technology.
The standard I aim for
The site aims to meet level AA of Israeli Standard 5568, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). That is the level I build to and check against myself; the site has not been audited or certified by an outside body.
What the site does
- Every link, button and menu works from the keyboard, with a clear outline around the one in focus. Each page starts with a "Skip to content" link, and Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) opens the search.
- Pages are built for screen readers: one main heading per page, headings in order, named regions for the header, the navigation, the content and the footer, a text description for every picture that carries information, and a note on each link that opens in a new tab.
- The whole site is in English and in Hebrew. Hebrew pages run right to left, and every page tells the browser which language it is in.
- Motion has three levels: full, light and off. The site picks one for your device and turns motion off when your system asks for less of it. You can choose yourself under "Motion" at the bottom of every page (in the menu on a phone), and the site remembers your choice. With motion off, animations stop and Home's opening is reduced to a short fade; any key, click, tap or scroll skips the opening.
- The videos have no sound. The short clips play only with full motion and only while they are on screen, and each has a play and pause button; Tovanto's walkthrough plays only when you start it.
- The light and dark looks follow your system setting, and a button in the header switches between them.
- Text is sized and coloured to be read comfortably in both looks, and every page fits any screen, down to small phones, without scrolling sideways.
- Long pages have a list of their chapters, and the ruler beside them also works with the arrow keys and Enter.
Known limitations
- Screenshots of my apps are pictures: the writing inside them is not read out, only the description that goes with each one.
- The live demos open at their own addresses. They are separate apps, built at different times and filled with sample data, and this statement covers this site, not them.
Found a problem?
If something here is hard to use, or you need any of it in another form, tell me and I will fix it or find another way to get it to you. I am responsible for the site's accessibility: write to me on LinkedIn (opens in a new tab). All the ways to reach me are on the contact page.
